Treatments

Kansas City Urology and Oncology is proud to announce that they are the first practice in Missouri and Kansas to perform the Urolift implant procedure using the new UL2 delivery system. Dr. Jason Anast, MD was the administering urologist.

“It’s more efficient, so the procedure can be done in less time, improving the comfort of Urolift procedures done in the office.”

What Is Urolift?

Urolift is an innovative treatment for BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) or enlarged prostate. Many men experience urinary difficulty when the enlarged prostate tissue interferes with urinary function. With the Urolift procedure, permanent implants are used to hold the prostate tissue away from the urethra allowing the urine to pass through freely. The Urolift procedure requires no cutting, heating, tissue destruction, or tissue removal. It’s a simple mechanical answer to a mechanical problem. Best of all, Urolift does not cause ejaculatory or erectile dysfunction. It is a one-time, outpatient solution that provides rapid relief with little or no side effects. It fills the gap between medication and invasive surgery for BPH.

UL2 Delivery System

The latest advancement in Urolift treatment is the introduction of the new UL2 delivery handle. Each Urolift implant is delivered through a cartridge. The urologist directs the cartridge with the help of the UL2 delivery handle. This new handle streamlines the procedure by enhancing the way the implant is deployed.

Benefits of the UL2 Handle

Typically one delivery handle is used per procedure, and an individual implant cartridge delivers each Urolift implant. This new delivery handle offers several advantages:

  • Compared to the prior generation Urolift system, this new eco-friendly delivery handle and implant design requires less storage space and generates half as much waste material per procedure.
  • The ergonomic design features a single trigger for intuitive deployment with a thumb-actuated needle safety button.
  • Improved Procedural Efficiency – the cystoscope (hollow tube equipped with a lens) can remain in the handle for the entire procedure which reduces lens exchanges, lessening the possibility of lens damage.
  • The original Urolift implant remains the same, ensuring proven outcomes and building on years of clinical research and real-world successes.
