Dr Austenfeld received his medical degree from the University of Kansas in 1983 and did his urologic training at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City from 1983 to 1988. He completed a fellowship in Urological Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in 1989 and then practiced as Director of Urologic Oncology at the University of Kansas until 1996. He is now in private practice and a member of a large single specialty urology group practice, KCUC.

Dr. Austenfeld is an emeritus trustee of the American Board of Urology, Past-President of the American Association of Clinical Urologists and Past-President of the South Central Section of the American Urological Association. He is board-certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of The American Urology Association, American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Society of Urological Oncology.

Dr. Austenfeld practices general urology with focused interests in urological cancers and reconstructive surgery. He participates in outreach urology clinics in Butler, Missouri and Emporia, Kansas.
