Dr. Holmes received his B.A. in biochemistry and graduated with honors from the University of Kansas. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center. While in medical school he was awarded the Chont, Lazlo and Esther scholarship as well as the Sharp, Elwood, and Mamie scholarship. He trained in general surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital and completed his urology residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he was a Pfizer National Scholar. He has presented scientific research at the American Urological Association national meeting and has published in the Journal of Urology and Urology. He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Missouri — Kansas City Medical School, Urology Section.

Dr. Holmes practices general urology (including BPH, Incontinence and ED) but has a special focused professional interest in urological cancers of the prostate, bladder and kidney as well as kidney stone management. He performs minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical procedure including Robotic Assisted Prostatectomies and Nephrectomies. Dr. Holmes performed the first daVinci robotic surgical case in the KC Metro on May 1, 2003 and since that time has actively scrubbed in on over 1,500 cases.

Dr. Holmes is certified by the American Board of Urology, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has lived in Kansas City for more than thirty years. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Kansas City Urological Society. He holds licenses to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri.

He is in private practice at St. Luke’s Hospital. In 2009, 2014 and 2015 US News and World Report ranked the urology program at St. Luke’s Hospital as one of the top 50 in the United States.
