Dr. Strickland has been practicing in the field of urology since 1989. He received his BS degree in 1980 at the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree in 1984 from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 1983. He completed his residency in urology in 1989 at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Dr. Strickland enjoys all aspects of urology including but not limited to prostate therapies, kidney stone disease, and all urologic cancers (prostate, bladder and kidney). He has a particular interest in microsurgical vasectomy reversals and additional training and interest in prostate biopsy techniques involving MRI/prostate ultrasound fusion.

Dr. Strickland has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1991. He began private practice in 1989. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, Kansas City Urological Society, Kansas Medical Society, and the Wyandotte/Johnson County Medical Society. Dr. Strickland served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in 1998 and 1999. He is licensed to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri.
