An Event with a Mission: The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk
KCUC is proud to sponsor this year’s ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk; a nationwide series of 5Ks, 10Ks, and family-friendly walk/run events focused on raising awareness and funds to fight prostate cancer. The event brings together survivors, families, caregivers, and healthcare experts with one common mission: to end prostate cancer.
According to ZERO Prostate Cancer, their goal is simple yet powerful:
“ZERO is the destination for a future without prostate cancer.”
By walking or running, you are helping accelerate research, support patients, and spread life-saving awareness.
KCUC Supports Health With ZERO Prostate Cancer
ZERO Prostate Cancer is a national nonprofit dedicated to ending prostate cancer through education, research, patient support, and advocacy. From free testing and screening programs to educational resources for men and their families, our goal is to ensure that patients receive the guidance and care they need. In partnership with KCUC, ZERO also provides financial assistance and navigation support during treatment, while advocating for increased research funding at both the local and federal levels.
Events like the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk serve as both fundraisers and awareness campaigns, helping those across the country gain access to early detection, treatment options, and hope.
KCUC’s Commitment to Prostate Cancer Awareness
KCUC’s team of specialists is committed to fighting prostate cancer every day. As the largest urology practice in the Kansas City metro, we provide advanced treatments such as proton therapy, cutting-edge surgical options, and personalized care from board-certified oncologists.
Supporting the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk is one way we extend our mission beyond our practices’ walls, giving us the opportunity to stand alongside patients and their families, raise awareness about the importance of early screening, and educate the community about treatment options and local resources.
Most importantly, it’s a chance to provide hope—reminding those and their loved ones that no one has to face prostate cancer alone.

Understand Prostate Cancer: Risks, Detection, and Treatment
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men after skin cancer, and in the U.S., about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime. Yet many men are unaware of just how silent the disease can be in its early stages. Often, there are no obvious symptoms—which is why regular screenings such as PSA tests are so important, especially for men over 50 or those with higher risk factors.
Certain groups face an even greater risk. African American men and those with a family history of prostate cancer—such as a father or brother who has been diagnosed—should be particularly proactive about early detection.
The good news is that treatment options are more advanced than ever! KCUC provides a wide range of treatment options, from active surveillance for low-risk prostate cancers to cutting-edge treatments like proton therapy in partnership with KCPI, and advanced surgical techniques. With early diagnosis and proper treatment, survival rates are very high—nearly 100% of men diagnosed early live at least five years after treatment.
Prostate cancer doesn’t have to define your future. By staying informed, getting screened, and knowing your options, you can take control of your health. Schedule an appointment with KCUC today!
