KCUC welcomes P. Joseph Guidos, M.D. to our practice. After growing up in southeast Missouri, Dr. P. Joseph Guidos moved to Kansas City, MO, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology as well as a Doctor of Medicine, from the combined accelerated undergraduate and medical doctorate program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He then re-located to Iowa City, IA to complete 6 years of combined internship and residency training in general surgery and urology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. During his residency training, he dedicated 12 months solely toward research and educational activities, in addition to additional research activities achieved throughout the remainder of his training. He has presented at both local, national, and international meetings and has numerous publications from his research.

While at the University of Iowa, he developed a significant interest in minimally invasive surgery, and underwent extensive specialized training in minimally-invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery for the highly complex oncologic cases, in addition to various other non-neoplastic urinary tract pathologies. He has a special interest in robotic procedures, including but not limited to robotic prostatectomies, robotic partial and/or complete nephrectomies (removal of all or part of the kidney), robotic pyeloplasties, and robotic ureteral reimplantations.

Dr. Guidos is trained in all aspects of urology and also has notable interest in the various invasive and non-invasive treatments for erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, and urethral stricture disease. He specifically performs surgical implants such as penile prostheses and artificial urinary sphincters. He is also skilled in both endoscopic and open reconstruction of urethral stricture disease, including the use of buccal mucosal grafts. Furthermore, he has extensive experience in the medical and surgical treatment of urinary stones and enlarged prostates.

Dr. Guidos is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the American Urological Association, and both the Missouri and Kansas Urological Societies. He is Board Eligible by the American Board of Urology and is licensed to practice medicine in both Kansas and Missouri.

On a more personal note, Dr. Guidos is happiest when he is able to spend his free time outdoors, enjoying hiking trips and traveling with his friends, family, and his dog Bobo. Dr. Guidos is an avid gardener and chef, with a passion for learning and creating new recipes that integrate aspects from multiple international cuisines. He considers himself an amateur baker, and loves spending time in the kitchen.
