Cutting-Edge Care Just Around the Corner

Treatments

When it comes to medical care, we all want the best. That’s exactly what you’ll get at KCUC Urology and Oncology. Our board-certified urologists and oncologists are often the first to bring cutting-edge medical care and new technology to the metro area – and many times the states of Kansas and Missouri. KCUC physicians win individual awards and our practice is dedicated to being the best.

KCUC Has 32 Locations in the KC Metro Area

But one of our major advantages over our competitors is our convenience. KCUC has 32 offices located in and around the Kansas City area. That means that when you need a urologist, you don’t have to drive far away, deal with traffic, figure out which parking lot to park in and which building to go to, and then navigate a huge hospital to find your doctor. Nope. At KCUC, you pull up to the building, head inside, are greeted by friendly staff, and are treated on a first-name basis. And you get all of this convenience along with top doctors and state-of-the-art technology.

Always at the Forefront of Medicine

KCUC was the first to bring cutting-edge medical advances to Kansas City. Here are a few:

Aquablation Therapy – Dr. Gerald Park was the first physician to perform Aquablation therapy in Kansas City. Aquablation therapy is an advanced, minimally invasive surgical treatment for enlarged prostate that uses imaging, robotics, and a heat-free water jet. This procedure gives surgeons the ability to view the entire prostate so they can create a map that avoids the parts of the prostate that cause irreversible complications (incontinence, ejaculatory dysfunction, erectile dysfunction). It is also the only procedure that uses a heat-free water jet to remove prostate tissue. Procedures that use heat to remove prostate tissue may be damaging to the parts of the prostate that control erectile and ejaculatory functions.

Axonics® Therapy – Dr. Sam Kuykendall was the first physician to implant the Axonics® Therapy system for bladder control. Axonics® Therapy uses sacral neuromodulation, a therapeutic technique that involves electrical stimulation to a sacral nerve root to modulate a neural pathway. Axonics® Therapy helps to relieve symptoms of overactive bladder, bowel incontinence, and urinary retention.

Barrigel® Hyaluronic Acid Rectal Spacer – Barrigel® Hyaluronic Acid Rectal Spacer protects the rectum by moving it out of radiation beam exposure prior to radiation therapy. Barrigel is the only sculptable rectal spacer that gives the physician optimal control over the shape and placement of the implant. It has been proven to significantly reduce prostate radiation side effects.

daVinci Robotic System – The da Vinci robotic system is an advanced form of laparoscopic (small incision) surgery. Surgeons use a computer-controlled robot to assist them. The original da Vinci robot used multiple ports requiring multiple small incisions, but the da Vinci Single Port only requires a single incision. KCUC pioneered the first multi-port daVinci robot in 2003 and the first daVinci Single Port system in 2019.

eCoin for Bladder Control – Jason Anast was the first physician to implant the eCoin. eCoin® is the first FDA-approved tibial stimulator device for Urge Urinary Incontinence (UUI). The coin-sized device is placed under the skin, near the ankle during a safe and minimally invasive procedure.

InterStim-X System – KCUC physician Sam Kuykendall was the first physician in Missouri to implant the InterStim X™ system. The InterStim X™ system is an SNM (sacral neuromodulation) system used to help control nerves that affect bowel and bladder control.

Outpatient Proton Cancer Therapy – Kansas City Proton Institute (KCPI), a division of KCUC, is the first to bring outpatient proton therapy to Kansas City. Proton therapy represents the latest advances in radiation therapy treatments for cancer patients, targeting and destroying cancer tumors while reducing the risks of harmful side-effects.

RapidArc Radiotherapy – RapidArc radiotherapy is a breakthrough technology that delivers faster and more precise cancer treatments using a linear accelerator. Image guidance improves tumor targeting, and IMRT (intensity-modulated radiation therapy) shapes the radiation dose so that it conforms closely to the shape of the tumor ensuring that more radiation is delivered to the tumor and less to surrounding healthy tissues. KCUC is the only office-based provider of RapidArc radiation therapy.

REZUM for Enlarged Prostate – KCUC physicians were the first to provide BPH therapy using Rezum. Rezum is a minimally invasive procedure, which uses hot steam to reduce the enlarged part of the prostate responsible for urinary obstruction. It minimizes the negative effect on surrounding tissue so it preserves sexual and urinary functions and patients can quickly resume normal activities.

UroLift UL2 System – The Urolift procedure for enlarged prostate uses permanent implants to hold the prostate tissue away from the urethra allowing the urine to pass through freely. KCUC physician Jason Anast was the first to use the UroLift2 which features a new handle that enhances the way the implant is deployed.
